A lesson in Dogs

Here's a fantastic article from Ask A Korean about Eating Dogs in Korea.

It makes some fantastic points. Take the time to read the whole thing.

Aesthetics

I'm not very good in that area, therefore, my blog/house/makeup always looks like shipoopy. (Also, another thing I'm not good at? Sentence structure. Enjoy all of the excessive commas, sentence splicing and erroneous punctuation.)

Anyway - Where the heck am I supposed to get a cute, personalized blog?

I figured I've earned the right to upgrade? I've done the freebee from blogger for over a year now. Doesn't that prove my responsibility? I'll feed it and water it and take it for walks every day! *Promise*

A Day at the Circus

We bought tickets to the circus a few weeks ago and had a great time. It was one of the coolest shows I have ever seen.
We were on the second row and could see all of the performers up close. I think I was expecting "carny-type" people, but they were all athletic, young, talented, kids! They were all great performers and we were sitting so close, I felt like I was part of the fun! I hadn't been to the circus since I was about Carter's age and it's a good thing, If I had gone right before graduating high school - I might have run off and joined them!
I know it's not as 'glamourous' of a live as it seems, but sometimes the idea of all the freedom and free spirits is enticing to a stay at home mom who does the same things day after day. :)

Carter

Carter has become quite the personality these last few weeks in America.
As I mentioned in a previous post, he's starting to really assert his opinions and try out his new found 'attitidue'.
I guess somewhere along the way I assumed only girls had attitude issues, but I can assure you, that's not the case.

He's very stubborn and wants to do things his way. However, the advances in his language development has been exponential the last 6 months and he can and will voice how he feels about every situation.

He's very quick to argue when I tell him he can't do this, or he needs to do this now.

Last night as we're heading to a Chinese Buffet, we had the following conversation.

"Mom, we're going to eat Chinese food?"
"Yes."
"I need a diet coke then."
"What? What are you talking about?
I NEED a diet coke mom, I Always have a diet coke with my chinese food!"

As I am trying to stifle my laughter and figure out where in the world he picked that up, I remember that about 3 weeks before we left Osan we all went out for Chinese food and he did indeed, have a diet coke.

Another facet of this attitude has come quite the sense of humor.
More than once a day he has me laughing out loud. Many are instances I have to hide that I'm laughing out loud and then reprimand for the inappropriate language or behavior, but nonetheless, my immature sense of humor finds it entertaining.

Here's another scenario that happened yesterday:

As I'm assisting Carter with peeing he toots, and then instead of 'excuse me' he waves his hands in front of his face (to wave away the smell) and says, "Whew! I don't remember eating that!"

Nice.

Downward Spiral

You would think that being here with my parents in the States would make my 'job' easy peasy. I have almost unlimited resources, I have help most days (my parents do still work most of the week) and I'm in America! What could be better, right?
It seems however that a number of circumstances are shooting me through a downward spiral faster than ever.
First of all, the boys are obviously not on "their" turf, and don't really understand when we're going home or why we can't just go now.
Carter asks about Cory several times a day and cries when we talk about him
No one's going to bed on time, or even remotely on time.
No one has any semblance of a schedule.
We've been eating a diet full of starches, fast food and watching hours of American TV a day.

Carter's behavior has been out of control and therefore, so has my temper.
I've been simultaneously reading two books since we've been here, hoping to make things better between the two of us.

Right now, Carter and I are at a crossroads, and neither of us are backing down.
I've even identified the problems Carter and I are having. The main one being both of us feeding into the "Coercive Process with a negative reinforcement trap" Which is really just a fancy way of saying we're feeding off of each other's negativity and both of our tempers and behavior is getting out of control because of it. I know what I need to do, but because Carter and I spend the day at battle. I am too tired to change or enforce anything.
After weeks of sleepless nights, a broken nose, a broken toe, out of control hormones, and a horrible diet my mindset is obviously not at its best, but I've got to pull both of us out of this.

This isn't Carter's fault. He's two for goodness sake. I'm the adult and I've got to start acting like it.
Instead of having yelling matches. (because that's really mature isn't it?)

One of the worst parts is that I feel like my parents will never have faith in me as a mother. They are watching this downward spiral between Carter and me everyday and can tell I'm frazzled and worn out. They can tell that I CAN'T HACK IT.
I DON'T HAVE THE CHOPS.

Genetics

Carter looked just like Cory from the get-go.
But when Clay was first born, he didn't look like either of us.
As he got older, he looks just like my side of the family.
But now - He kinda looks like Glen Beck...?
