The other day as I was walking into the bathroom at the bx, I overheard two men talkng about the wires/plugs in the display beside me. One of them asked," MH? What is MH?"
The other guy exclaimed, "Magnesium Hydroxide?"
"Yeah."
It made me feel smart inside that I remembered no, that would be MgOH-
See, I know more than just all the words to Barney's Sing-a-long!

Sunday Matinee
Carter has discovered Eskimo kisses, and he thinks they're hilarious.
We've really been into bugs lately. Carter was ecstatic when he found this 'bug' on the patio this morning. We named him Moo.
Cory's making ribs for tonight. Carter ate BBQ sauce, raw garlic, raw onion and pure lemon juice. Let's just say I don't want him breathing near me.

And POP! Out of the egg!
I am amazed at how much talking Carter has been doing lately. Well, let's say communicating. He's talking/signing 70/30.
He remembers everything and tells the story over and over again.
The huz squished a bug on the floor with my rain boot yesterday morning and Carter is STILL talking about it.
"Dada! SQUISH! boot! ~signs bug~"
When we pick up Dada from work on occassion, Carter talks about how he colored and if Bailey barked at people on the balcony and that his hat blew off in the wind.
We've been reading a lot of The Very Hungry Caterpillar lately and he loves the part where the caterpillar goes "POP - out of the egg"!
Throughout the day he reminds me just how much he loves that part of the book. He says "And POP!" and then just says the rest of the sentence's intonation. I'll have to try and catch it on video, but trust me - It's cute.

General Update
This week hasn't been exciting and action packed (unless you live inside my uterus - which seems to be where the party's at 24 hours a day) but I thought a general update to all my fans (read: family) would be appreciated.
We've had gorgeous weather this week! It's been a little cooler with a constant breeze. The kids around here are soaking it in before school starts for them on Monday. In the evenings the playground (which is 20 feet from our back door - where everyone can see what I'm cooking for dinner or how often I'm beating my misbehaved child) has been packed full of kids. I'm talking in excess of 50 people here?!
I finally caught the boys who had been 'taunting' the dog through our balcony gate. I've seen them do it several times. I leave her inside during the commotion on the playground and these boys had been 'barking' at her and banging on the balcony rails. Meanwhile, she's going bezerk at them through the glass. I calmly reminded them that she doesn't know they're "just playing" and I would hate for her to feel defensive when people show up to pet her on the balcony everyday because she was afraid someone might hurt her.
One of my biggest pet-peeves is people who don't understand the responsibility of having a large dog. It's one thing if a little dog were to become mean or bite someone, or pull on a leash. But when you're a large dog owner you've signed up for taking full control and responsibility for them and their actions. Larger dogs are held to higher standards and if you can't control them, you shouldn't have them.
But I digress...
Carter has been behaving a little better these last few days. I'm really trying to interact with him more during the days instead of just trying to 'keep him busy'. Today (it's been rainy and windy) we took a long fun bath together and sorted shapes and watched and talked about a movie and read books and colored together and he REALLY liked it. The other day during the end of Barney (the I Love You song) he came and hugged me and gave me a kiss (which if you know my son, doesn't ever happen!) I was so touched, but afraid that it was a coincidence. But today, I looked him right in the eye and said, "I love you" and he stopped and signed "thank-you", then had a funny look on his face like "that's not right...but I don't know the sign for I love you too" so he just gave me a kiss! It has made my last few weeks of biting battles seem so insignificant. I just worry that the little progress we're making now will be futile once the baby comes. But, I'm trying to make a very conscience effort to enjoy and cherish the present instead of worrying about the future. I only have about 3 months left to enjoy Carter as an only child, and I want that to be special.

Whirlwind
We found out on Friday that Monday was going to be a down day for the huz. I got a phone call telling me to plan something, so we ended up at a beach on the East coast this weekend. That's how it works around here by the way. The huz makes money and I make life happen. The jury's still out if it's a fair deal or not.
We stayed at Sokcho Beach at a place called Good Morning Hotel.
We accidentally ended up in a traditional Korean eatery the first night. Which was good, because it's nice to experience things like that..but bad because I can't even stomach the SMELL of Korean food. Carter ended up eating some silly-putty balls that were supposed to be some kind of dessert. Cory ate a quail egg on accident and I ate a huge bowl of Seaweed soup. We tried to high tail it our of there without insulting the people and minus $60!
We spent Sunday morning at the beach. The sand was like a kazillion little beads, not like sand in the US. It was kind of weird at first because it didn't feel like sand but once we realized how easy it was to shake and dust off, I became a huge fan. In fact, I'm pretty sure we should have this stuff imported to the US. The beach was incredibly crowded. But I've heard that all of the beaches are. You literally have 6-8 inches between you and the person next to you (if you're lucky).
The waves were amazing. They were so big and rough. Little babies and old women alike all crashed and played in them. Carter was afraid after a wave knocked him down.
All of the people loved Carter. We heard, "He so cute, he so cute" a lot. We were stopped on the streets every 20 feet. They wanted to hug and kiss him. Carter was really shy but would occasionally give out a high five (which would send them into hysterical laughing fits!) They all wanted to know where we were from, and didn't seem satisfied when we answered Osan. We finally changed out answer to the US and then eventually Texas. That's what they were looking for.
We ventured to Seoraksan National Park and took a mini hike that afternoon.
We had tempura for lunch and the huz accidentally bit into a shrimp head. I've never seen that man spit anything out in my life. Hehe.
We found a decently western chicken place for supper.
It was a great escape and a fun adventure, but we were glad to get back to some Americanization yesterday.

Terrible twos, or two (boys) that are going to be terrible?
So it seems that my kid is THAT kid. You know, the one who bites and hits and has to leave playgroup early and drives his mom to tears worrying that he or she will never have friends again? Yeah, that one.
Carter used to be so calm and happy playing with other kids. He's always been around other kids, so this can't be a transition thing. Is he angry? Is he just teething? If so, how does that explain the hitting?
And he doesn't just bite other kids, he bites whose ever flesh he sees. He bit a friend (another mom mind you) at playgroup and I was mortified.
He smacks everyone in the face (including me). But what's weird about it is that it doesn't just come with frustration. It seems as if he hits and bites for the heck of it!
What do you do for a baby who misbehaves for the heck of it?
I don't even give him warnings anymore. It's just straight into the crib.
But he doesn't care! He sits there until his time is up and then proceeds to 'do it some more'.
And I have read that toddlers don't really understand time out until they're between 2 and 3 anyway.
Nothing seems to do any good...

Please Pray
My Aunt is very, very sick and in the hospital. While I only have limited details (And this is not the place to broadcast her and her family's lives.) please keep her in your prayers. She is way to young and wonderful to be sick like this.

The Great Hair Debacle of 2008
I've basically been so anxious about my hair mishap for two days now I can't relive it in full detail. Long story short: I went off base, a man (who I'm pretty sure now has had no formal training in cosmetology) 'painted' my hair with bleached stripes. I left in tears. The salon at the bx was able to remedy it (as best they could - which was a pretty good job considering the damage done) but I'm very very very blonde now. Like, almost platinum blonde.
I'm considering dying it brown at my next appointment and I'm surfing Amazon right now for a meditation CD. (No, I'm not joking).
This 'mishap' made me realize that my anxiety has gotten a little out of control. I want to nip it in the bud before it starts interfering with my daily life.

I knew it
It looks like the Y's swim faster than the X's in this family.
Carter will be joined by his BABY BROTHER on or about Dec. 9th*!
*They moved my due date to Dec. 16th now since baby seems to be large and in charge. I'll have my section at 39 weeks which puts me having him around Dec. 9th.
I'll also be deleting the girl name poll, but thanks for voting anyway!

Baby Time
Tomorrow afternoon at 1:00pm S. Korea time I will be finding out if we're buying pink onesies or blue!
Unfortunately, Cory has to work (surprise, surprise huh?) so I might just torture him for awhile and make him do tricks to find out. heh.
I'll post as soon as I get home but it'll be in the middle of the night for most of y'all. So check in as soon as you get up!
I can't wait!

I'm on to you
So I decided I was going to start trying to drink Ensure a few times a week to meet my calorie needs. A few crackers or cookies here and one maybe two meals a day there isn't cutting it. I remember Grandma drinking it a lot. So this morning I drank the chocolate variety and am pretty sure I've figured out a secret I wasn't supposed to know.
I'm pretty sure this is how 'they' subdue the old folkies. With all the calories (even from fat) and vitamins in this horribly-chalky-disgusting drink I figured I'd at least have a pep in my step this afternoon. However, I feel like I didn't even sleep last night. I haven't been this tired in weeks!
I'm on to you, who ever you are...this is why you're passing out Ensure at nursing homes like it's going out of style! Those poor, poor old folkies. I'm calling for a national boycott! Let's see what kind of fight these people really have left in them.

New Mom Fog
When I look back at the time right after I had Carter, sometimes I can't believe the things I was doing or decisions I was making. My rationale was completely unrealistic and I'm very appreciative of all my family who put up with me in that time.
When my MIL stayed with us, she asked for a pillow and I ACTUALLY took the dog's pillow, changed the case and gave it to her. Luckily I mentioned to her (as I was handing it to her) what I had done. She politely declined the pillow.
What was I thinking?
I made both sets of grandparents sleep on a horribly filthy futon. There were pet stains and pet fur all over it. They just put sheets on it and slept on it without a complaint.
Very soon after I had Carter, the huz and I had a very very big fight. (Yes, my childless friends, the weeks right after baby aren't always Johnson&Johnson commercial appropriate). We were fighting in the car and I actually tried to get out of the car WHILE IT WAS MOVING!
On my 21st birthday, a good friend had called me and offered to watch Carter for the night while the huz and I went out. Carter came down with a cold the day before and I declined her offer. We took a sick baby on my 21st birthday (Which I'm totally sure he enjoyed more than being cuddled in loving arms at a friend's quiet home.) I just couldn't ration is my head "She's had two very preemie babies and is way responsible and would never let anything happen to this kid!"
Another good friend offered to watch Carter for the night so the huz could take me to the ER when I was dying at about 7 days post partum. Instead, I made her come with me and Cory stayed home with the baby. Which, kind of makes sense, but what she told me made more sense. Carter needed loving arms and a bottle. I needed my husband. I still couldn't rationalize it.
There are so many many more bizarre things that I did in the "new mom fog", but those are some that have always stuck with me. I know that it'll be a lot different this next time around. In fact the picture I imagine is that I'll go in, they'll remove baby and we'll go home like nothing ever happened. I'll strap the kid in the sling and he or she will follow Carter around with me all day. But I guess I just wanted to acknowledge everybody in my life's awesomeness for dealing with it. This next birth I hope visibility is good and I'm not flying IFR.
