Today went really well. The boys and I made it to playgroup by 9:30, had nap time and lunch (that actually required cooking)! Made a trip to the bx for some new shoes for Carter and some milk. We played on the playground afterwards, everyone was peachy keen. I was even cooking my favorite BBQ fried chicken and hashbrown casserole for dinner when things went terribly, terribly wrong.
As I'm cooking dinner I hear Carter say, "Clay, popcorn?". Carter and I had eaten popcorn earlier in the day and I just knew he had fed some to the baby. I asked Carter very seriously, "Carter, did you feed Clay popcorn?" and he obediently nodded his head. I did a few finger sweeps and right as I was about to give up, swept a popcorn kernel out of the young 2 month old babe's mouth. Wow, please nominate me for mom of the year right away.
To make the evening go just a little smoother, I chopped the end of the dog's tail off.
Yes, you heard me right, there was a piece. of tail. not connected. to the dog's body. laying on my floor.

As Bailey was coming in from eating dinner (she eats outside because she's a horribly messy eater) I closed the door a millisecond too early. I tried to bandage the thing, but tails are slippery. Meanwhile the dog's bleeding all over the place, the kids are both crying (luckily I was able to call a neighbor to watch the kiddos while I took Bailey) and I feel like the greatest human being ever. A yelp and a piece of tail later, and we were at the vet.
There wasn't enough skin to sew it back together, luckily it was only about 1/4 in of tail. They bandaged it best they could, and we're doing daily dressing changes, antibiotics, and anti-inflammatories. She has an E-collar and if she can't stop wagging her tail we've got to attach it to her leg. My in laws are in town and happened to be at the DMZ today, so they came home to a lady they didn't know watching the kids and blood on the wall. Hmmm, I'm pretty sure they feel really great about leaving me alone with the kiddos now.
It's awful, it's gross (believe me, I carried the "tail" to the vet with me, be glad I didn't take a picture of that.) and I feel like Mom of the Year.
